Calling all circular economy innovators! Want to take part in a hackathon at one of the resource management events of the year? This year’s RWM conference takes place in Birmingham’s NEC, on 12 -14 September and we’re looking for great tech-based ideas to revolutionise the way consumers buy, re-use, repair and recycle materials.
Information technologies, smart data, digitisation and the Internet of Things have revolutionised many activities in our daily lives. In the world of shopping, 15% of UK retail spending is now online, totalling £52 billion in 2015. eBay hosts 150 million active trades at any one time and lists more than 700 million items, far in excess of the inventory that a physical market can hope to store or display.
Smart data, mobile apps and other digital applications are increasingly being applied in waste management: “smart bins” being just one example. But can we do more? Can we use these technologies to help consumers make educated product purchase, re-use and recycling decisions? Can we make product management and waste management more joined-up and efficient?
This hackathon aims to showcase innovative ideas that use mobile technology, smart data and the Internet of Things to deliver solutions for improving circularity. We welcome entrepreneurs with an emerging concept as well as startups and small businesses who are developing their technology. Innovations could address (but are not limited to) the following challenges:
London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB) has teamed up with RWM and this year’s event industry partner, SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, to host the #CEhack17 event.
Successful applicants will be invited to a pitch day in London on 31st August 2017, from which five finalists will be chosen to attend the final showdown hackathon at the RWM Conference in Birmingham on 13th September 2017. The finalists will receive a day of mentoring and support from industry experts before pitching at the Circular Economy Connect Theatre for a £7,000 prize.
Interested? Please complete the CEhack17 Outline Proposal Form. Please review the terms and conditions for the event. The T&Cs have been updated to reflect the new deadline for outline proposals, no other changes have been made. Please note this is an innovation challenge, we are looking to understand your business model, how technology supports it, and provides a solution to our challenge themes. We do not require in depth information about the technology, entrants are only required to share what they are comfortable sharing and the IP remains with the entrant.
Ready to go? Please submit your outline proposal to firstname.lastname@example.org by 17:00 23rd August 2017.
This is a great opportunity to showcase your circular economy tech innovation ideas to potential customers and business partners, share ideas and be inspired by peers, and receive advice and support from sector specialists. We look forward to meeting the entrepreneurs who are harnessing technology to drive resource efficiency and advance the circular economy.
